Our close friendships with Malawi are not limited to coffee. Music has also connected us with the country from the very beginning. In 2019, we were there as a partner of the Lake of Stars Festival. Radio shows, festivals at The Commonage and events in the capital, Lilongwe, followed.
With the release of Maggie Kadrum, we are taking the logical next step! We discovered Maggie and her debut album, Nkhwiza, through the Lilongwe-based event venue uka and were immediately impressed. Maggie combines progressive themes with an incredible voice.
She is accompanied by Charles Burton on drums, Gilbert Simuchoba on percussion, Don Chisenga on keys, Dom Dada on guitar and Mattalege on bass. The band feels at home in modern jazz progressions while creating a meaningful connection with traditional influences from East Africa.
On Kumbi, the first release from our in-house label RVTC Records, we feature two tracks from her debut album and release them newly remastered on vinyl. The EP is completed by the exclusive first two singles from her next album, Mama and Kumbi.
The record is available separately or as a bundle with our coffees from The Commonage in Malawi.
