RVTC's Blend Series
Share
We dedicate the second edition of our Blend Series to Jungle Boogie. And once again, we have followed our desire to translate the feeling this espresso evokes in us into a musical interpretation. This wish is in the best hands with Anna Cainelli. Her mix, which safely and freshly pressed on vinyl has landed on our record shelf, varies from start to finish - from spherical synth chords to deep basslines - and never loses focus on rhythm and drums, which run through it as a theme. Perfect for a break or a burst of motivation afterward - exactly what we expect from Jungle Boogie.
What music did Jungle Boogie make you think of, and how did you ultimately make your selection for the mix?
I struggle with strict planning for my DJ sets... All my mixes come together spontaneously, more from a feeling during recording. The track selection is also based on a feeling I have before a mix or a DJ set, which is hard to put into words. If I had to describe my feeling for this mix, it would be: music that is warm and rhythmic, not too prominent, but still makes you want to move. Music that you can listen to just as well on the beach as in an espresso bar.
The intro immediately sets the mood for the mix. Where did you find the intro, and did you base your music selection on this intro?
I often choose intro songs that stand out and encourage listeners
to keep listening. For almost every mix, it's important to me to feature both F.L.I.N.T.A. artists and lesser-known artists. Nigerian producer Maryyx2 is one of my top new discoveries from 2024. I found the intro song "Hey You (Interlude 0.1)" perfect for "that feeling" in terms of sound. Moreover, it speaks of dreams, the sea, and dolphins - all keywords I found suitable for the mix.

I first saw you play at Callshop Radio's studio opening. Back then, you played a great set centered around Boogie and Disco. What do these genres mean to you, and has your musical taste changed much since then? What kind of music are you looking for now?
Thanks! That was my first live DJ set in front of an unknown audience and my Callshop Radio debut! My sound has become more electronic since then - but I would argue that you can always hear the rhythms and feelings of Disco and Boogie in my sets - perhaps in different forms, through faster beats or vocals, or through newly discovered music genres like Baltimore Club, Detroit Techno, or forgotten Soul/Dance classics.
You are part of the Cologne collective E.P.I.Q. What's behind it, and are there any special highlights planned for the near future?
I once described E.P.I.Q. as "the band I never had," and I still find that very fitting, as I have wanted a group of women to share my love for music with since my teenage years. E.P.I.Q. is exactly that. We are a Cologne DJ crew of eight women. Since 2021, we have been organizing our own parties, and since early 2023, we have been hosting our residency "E.P.I.Q. Nights" at the Jaki Club in Cologne.
Next E.P.I.Q. highlights:
- December 6th: E.P.I.Q. Nights at Jaki Club, Cologne
- and last but not least: Summer 2025 → E.P.I.Q. Boat Party ←
You previously hosted the show "Kleiderei Radio" on dublab.de in Cologne with AMSL. You recently started your own radio show "Casa Cainelli" on Callshop Radio. What fascinates you so much about the medium of radio?
As a child, I recorded a radio show for our fathers with my neighbor, as they coincidentally had their birthdays on the same day - a music show with their favorite songs and conversations, recorded on cassette. I still have that microphone from back then, and it still works. It even gets used at the E.P.I.Q. Nights. Perhaps that's where my fascination comes from.
Finally: Espresso or filter coffee?
Espresso, filter coffee, and Americano.
